How do I know if my pool is leaking? Living in the Sunshine State pools are a necessary commodity to beat that summertime heat or kick back and let the kids wear themselves out. When we purchase a home with a pool often times we don’t understand the required maintenance or what to do when something isn’t right. You notice the water level gradually decreasing, is it all those cannonball splashes that’s lowering my level? DIY TIPS: CHECKING FOR A POOL LEAK Before you call the professionals, we have some DIY tips for determining if your pool has a leak. Let’s start with some very obvious indicators your pool is leaking. Check the ground surrounding the pool for any visible standing water Look at your pump, filter, heater, and pipe valves for a leak Of course, not all leaks are going to be that obvious. As industry experts, we have a few tricks we advise to confirm a true leak that isn’t visible after checking your components. Make sure your pool is calm and grab a pencil or grease pin to mark an indicator line where the pool level currently sits. You can utilize a piece of tape as a marker as well. Our recommendation would be to wait a full 24 hours prior to checking your marker line. If your pool has lost more than ¼ inch of water then you have a leaking pool. Contact us to fix your leak! Our favorite leak detection method is the old bucket trick. This is a tried and true method for determining whether or not you have a leaking pool. Here’s how you do it… Place a bucket of water on your pool step and weight it down with some rocks Mark the water level on the inside and outside of the bucket Make sure that that the waterline inside the bucket is the same as the waterline on the outside of the bucket. Wait a full 24 hours and check the lines If the water level on the outside of the bucket is lower than the line on the inside of the bucket then you have a leak Note: We recommend conducting this test once with the pump on and then an additional test with the pump off. ...read more

Hurricane Pool Preparedness Unfortunately every year between the months of June and November in Florida we have to keep our eye on tropical development. Last year hurricane Irma devastated the Keys and caused mass damage across the state. We all know the drill with the ordinary hurricane preps, but did you ever consider you pool? 5 TIPS THAT WE SUGGEST FOR HURRICANE POOL PREPAREDNESS: Turn off power: This means everything! Pumps, heater, lights, and anything with a power source. The easiest way to be sure is to cut the main breaker at your electrical panel. Do not empty pool: An empty pool is a dangerous one. Your pool is at risk for popping out of the ground from the pressure of saturated soil from the torrential rains. After the storm has passed the cleanup will be much easier too! Remove any loose items: Any item that has the potential to become a projectile needs to be removed. If the items cannot be stowed, your best option is trying to tie them down. Do not put them in the pool! Protect electrical equipment: Disconnect and remove all electrical devices. If you are unable to do so, find a waterproof material like Ziplock to put over the devices. Use Duct tape or a zip tie to secure in place and protect from rain and debris. Protect safety fence: Protect your assets! Removing your entire safety fence could prove to be quite the chore. Our recommendation is to create ventilation from the high winds. Take one panel down on each side to allow wind to pass through more easily and give your fence a better chance for survival.
