The Importance of Getting Help Early

Senior Helping Hands encourages senior caregivers not to do too much.  Many couples have varying degrees of infirmities at various times.  We often see the healthier of the two step in and take care of all of the responsibilities of the house AND the needs of their spouse.  While this usually works well for short-term illnesses such as the flu or respiratory infections, trying to "do it all" over the long-term often results in the senior caregiver losing their good health in the process. In trying to keep your spouse at home with no help (or only spotty assistance from neighbors or adult working children) they often actually shorten the time they can stay safely in their own home.  Senior Helping Hands can provide as little or as much help as you need and want.  Our services offer a customized plan to meet your needs and can be modified any time as your needs change.  Getting help, even a few hours per week, can greatly add to your quality of life and keep you in your home safely for a longer period of time.  Call Senior Helping Hands for a free in-home assessment at 727-498-5312 or visit our website at www.seniorhelpinghandsllc.com for more information.  It's easier to stay well then get well! ...read more

Hire a Licensed Agency!

Don't be short-sighted and hire an individual to care for you in your home!  You may save a few dollars, but often these individuals are not covered under general liability insurance and do not have workers compensation.  That means if an accident occurs in your home, your homeowners insurance may be responsible!  Saving a few dollars in fees now may cost you an increased premium, or worse, being dropped from your carrier!  Hire an agency that is insured and uses only employees, not independent contractors and ask for proof of coverage.  Call Senior Helping Hands LLC at 727-498-5312 today for a free, no obligation consultation.  We are licensed, insured and are happy to answer all of your questions.  ...read more

Staying Safe in Your Own Home

Senior Helping Hands LLC was hired to assist an elderly man who had lived alone for many years.  His children and grandchildren lived a good distance away and it was difficult to make sure he had timely checks on his well being.  We sent caregivers in Monday through Friday for a few hours a day to make meals, visit and generally keep things neat and tidy.  This went on for several months.  One day we received a call from the caregiver.  "Something is just not right with "Mr. C" today.  He is not himself.  He seems more unsteady and is slurring some words."  Upon further discussion of his actions that morning, the caregiver called 911 to be on the safe side.  The office called the family and explained what we had observed and the action taken.  The family went to the hospital to find Mr. C in the emergency room.  Doctors indicated that they think he may have had a mini-stroke.  Mr. C was admitted for testing and was now safely in the hands of the hospital staff.  The family was very grateful that we were there to check on him so he could get early treatment for his condition.  Mr. C is back home now and our caregivers still see him a few hours each day, visiting and making him meals.  He doesn't remember much about that day, but his family sure does.  They are happy someone could be there when they couldn't to catch an early deterioration in his condition, so he can still live on his own and remain independent. ...read more
