Fuel prices can create hidden fuel surcharges!
As fuel prices creep upward, transportation businesses are starting to include fuel surcharges on invoices. While this is a necessity for continuity of operations, some folks quote prices without including this fee. For this reason, we want to remind customers to compare apples to apples when price shopping for services. Ask if there will be any additional charges Verify that the quote given is a flat rate and is not mileage based. Determine the level of experience and minimum certification(s) of your service provider. Ascertain the type of equipment that will be sent to do the job and any charges for extra equipment if required (For example, a car with a broken tie rod may require additional labor to load/ unload safely). Realistically, the costs of labor, fuel, insurance, communications, and marketing will be fairly equal from one reputable towing company to the next - despite the rise in fuel costs. Therefore, one should reallyshop for the quality of serviceinstead of the cost of service. I'm always skeptical when towing service is half the price of what it should be. It makes me question theexperience, insurance coverage, and equipmentthat the underpriced company may (or may not) possess. One can't justify operating costs by referencing high call volume. Failure to cover expenses, including capital improvement plans, is a business strategy for failure!Timeframe is an important variable that should be considered if you're looking to reduce the cost of a tow without sacrificing the level of service. Operating costs are roughly 65% when we don't make a special trip. In other words, a $100 tow can be done for $65 if you can wait until our truck is in your area! This may be a few hours or a few days, but if you can leave the keys with the car until we get to it you can likely save some money!Hope this helps!
