Avalon Valley Apartments

By KCRDanbury

I saw some negative reviews about Avalon Danbury, but I went ahead and rented from them for a year. What a mistake! They are way too costly for what you get, and are expensive even by Danbury standards. And what you do get are amenities that are unavailable for much of the time, either seasonally or because the office staff arbitrarily decided to cut hours of availability. These apartments are aging poorly. While I loved the Maintenance staff, I had to call them all-too-often as the appliances stopped working and major systems like the hot water heater and the heating system broke down. The paint and carpeting are cheap, but not when you move out and they charge you $1500 to carpet when they said they would clean the carpets for $350. Do not rent here. Like me, you will come to regret it. ...read more

Ways to save money on staging

At a recent networking event I attended, I met the local Habitat for Humanity director and he told me about ReStore.  ReStore is a store where home owners can donate gently-used home items, furniture, small appliances so the store can resell it to raise money. They'll even come to pick up these items so home owners don't have to worry about discarding them or renting a dumpster to hull away all their unwanted things when it comes time to declutter before they sell.  What a concept and way to save money. The flip side is great as well.  When we need to fill a vacant property or home that needs additional furniture, ReStore is a great source to shop.  Surely we all know that renting furniture can be expensive, shopping at ReStore might solve our staging needs.  Or if you just need to get a small amount of tiles to re-tile an entryway, you might be able to score some beautiful leftover tiles for cheap.   And upon the sales of the home, if the homeowners don't want to keep any of the ReStore purchase, they can turn around and donate them back - and get a tax claim.  Now that's truly saving money and a great way to recycle. ...read more
