It seems like most of what you pay for at an auto mechanic's shop (in terms of labor costs) is rack time; that means you are paying for that time the car is on the rack (or in the garage bay) whether any work is being done or not on the vehicle. We received a very small price discount ($25) due to the fact we had to make two separate trips to complete work which we thought was going to be been taken care on the first visit (partly). Positives: This shop is excellent about taking care of customers who arrive at the shop - virtually right away every time and communication is also very good. I am just really wondering if all the labor we were charged for was really actually earned. I am not necessarily saying that this shop is any worse than other mechanics' shops in that respect. It is just frustrating to see such high hourly labor rates when actual work on the vehicle during the time it is in the garage and/or on the rack is perhaps only really half (or even less) of that total time; that is the way it seems to me. Similar in a way to how lawyers charge you $200 or more per hour for their time (and round up on any time they spend) when some of what they do - often simple communication tasks not requiring any legal expertise - do not justify such a high hourly rate. ...read more

When a person buys a Mercedes Benz they should study the owner's manual but unfortunately most never open it. Big mistake. It is the bible on service and care of your very expensive vehicle. I get to see all the ones that are not taken care of and our shop fixes them. If you take care of your car (both exterior and interior) it will last for a very long time and reaps the benefits of long term car ownership. The auto industry would like you to buy a car very two years and Consumer Reports says that customers spend the most during the first three years of car ownership. Do the math. My truth is: buy a used Mercedes that you know is in good shape and then be religious about oil changes and maintenance. Have the car detailed twice yearly and always repair any dents/scratches to both exterior and interior. You will love your car for a very long time. ...read more
