Monica's Fine Foods only carries the highest quality of product. I participated in an initial blind taste test of their flagship Davoli Extra Virgin Olive Oil and it was by far the best out of a wide price range of competitors. I have since continued to compare it to all other EVOO that I try and none compare. Their Davoli Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a smooth, pleasing taste - it is of the highest quality. I trust Monica's Fine Foods to carry only the best quality of foods and recommend their products to anyone else as well. ...read more

Safeway Stores

4.0

By steve54 at Citysearch

I am a 54 year old male who has been shopping at safeway for many years. For the most part, I don't get too excited or disappointed at going to the grocery store. Its just a fact of life. However the last few months one particular discount program they have has really gotten me ticked off. The price of coke and pepsi productsused to be 2.50 to 3.00 per 12 pack. But recently they have gone to 5.69. Now there promotion is, buy 2 and get 3 free. I only want one, but to keep from being charged double for the price of one 12 pack, I have to bring home a whole trunk load of soda that I don't want. It is not in my budget to spend almost 12.00 for soft drinks, nor do I like to fill my cart up with pop so as to not have room for the rest of the things I need to buy. Then when I get home, I have to lug in five packs of soda and find room to put them. What ever happened to giving the consumer a good product at a fair price. Think about your customers that keep coming back to you week after week instead of pushing more product in the short run. If I wanted 5 cases of pop, I would be glad to buy them at 3.00 a pack. That should be my perogative, not to be held hostage to buy things I don't want or need at the time. For the most part, I have had good exoeriences at Safeway. This is not to complain and make people change stores, just to let youu know how I feel about this type of marketing. I usually don't get mad enough to set down and wrie a letter, but this makes me mad. Thanks for listening. Steve ...read more

Latest Technology makes life easier.

Information access is so fast nowadays, planning a delicious meal can happen literally with the push of a button! People have less and less time to prepare meals for their families, so this innovation is priceless. Recipe ideas can be transmitted and shared from the bottle right to your phone. In addition, you can share the information or your own ideas with your friends online. This can be a fun way to spice up summer barbeques and stir in a little competitive twist. How often have you surveyed the bottles on a grocery shelf and wondered, "This product appeals to me but how would I incorporate it in my cooking?";  Or, "I would love a new recipe for the boring chicken I have planned for dinner tonight".   Well, you are in luck - Culinary Twist has added a "Q.R. code" to the labels on the Taste of Paradise sauces.  Scan the code and you can get a lot of information - recipes, reviews, etc.  Monica's Fine Foods sells the three sauces.  Often at a tasting in the grocery stores customers asked us how to use the marinade or what is tamarind.  The Q.R Code helps resolve these issues.  Culinary Twist has received a lot of positive feedback from their customers.   This helps Culinary Twist bring out the best gourmet sauces for the 2011 BBQ season.  Try some today. For more information on the latest technology, check out the article in The New York Times. ...read more

What makes for a healthy tree with a bountiful harvest?

Olive trees grow in various sites all over the world.  What makes for a healthy tree with a bountiful harvest? Ideal soil and weather conditions will achieve that. Today I did some research on soil conditions to get GREAT tasting olive oil.  I found that the olive tree is quite tolerant.  It does prefer a moderately alkaline soil to an acidic soil.  Olive trees show a marked preference for calcareous soils, flourishing best on limestone slopes and crags, and coastal climate conditions.  The best fruits come from budded or grafted trees.  Olive trees prefer hot weather with long dry summers and temperatures not below −10 °C (14.0 °F).   Our Davoli extra virgin olive oil comes from Calabria, Italy. Calabria is located in the south west of mainland Italy, forming the toe of the boot and the region is only just across the Straights of Messina from Sicily to the southwest.  The region has a long tradition of making fine olive oil and because of this Calabria produces over twenty five per cent of all the olive oil made in Italy.  Here the olives are harvested in October and pressed soon, before the cold weather sets it.  In other locations, where they harvest later, the olives have to be heated to get the optimum oils out of the fruit.  This heat reduces the polyphenols in the olive oil thus reducing the antioxidant effect on your health.  According to <a href="http://www.olivaverde.co.uk/regions.html" target="blank">a source in the UK</a>, Calabrian Extra virgin olive oils are highly prized and in the 2009 Guide to the best olive oils in the world, two out of the top six olive oils were in fact Calabrian oils.   source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive ...read more

Is this the weekend you work on your tan?

With the end of winter comes an urge to get out in the sunlight.  We have been indoors for the long, wet, cold winter and need to soak in the warmth of the sunshine.  Winter sun is weak and usually does not pack a punch.  However, now the sun is quite strong, with skin damaging UV rays.  These UV rays cause the skin to "burn" - get red, sore, blistered and eventually lead to skin cancer.  There are various options to protect the skin from these harmful rays.  Sunscreens that contain Oxybenzone, Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate) and added insect repellent do more harm than good.  These chemicals have been known to cause tumors.  Look instead for sunscreen that has Zinc, Titanium dioxide, Avobenzone or Mexoryl SX.  Also, make sure that you do not chose spray-on or powder containers - those have a chance of being inhaled.   Instead, choose a cream that is water resistant and labeled SPF30+.  Of course, the best method to protect your skin from sunburn is to cover it up - with a long sleeved shirt, pants, hat or sit under an umbrella.   Do not forget to protect your eyes from the glare.  Sunglasses with maximum UV protection will deter the formation of cataracts. Last but not least, if your skin does feel tender or sore due to exposure to sun, make sure you read here on how to treat it. ...read more
