At present, most of the thermal conductive materials used in the field of silicone are alumina, silicon oxide, zinc oxide, aluminum nitride, boron nitride, silicon carbide and so on. In particular, micron alumina and silicon powder are the main body, nano-alumina and nitride are used as filler powder in the field of high thermal conductivity, while zinc oxide is mostly used as filler of thermal conductive silicone grease. Characteristic analysis: 1.Aluminum NitrideAlN Advantages: The thermal conductivity is very high. Disadvantages: expensive, usually more than 1000 yuan per kilogram; AlN + 3H 2= Al (OH) 3 + NH 3 will be hydrolyzed by water after moisture absorption, and Al (OH) 3 produced by hydrolysis will interrupt the thermal conduction pathway, thereby affecting phonon transfer, so the thermal conductivity of the product is low. Even if silane coupling agent is used for surface treatment, 100% of the filler surface can not be guaranteed to be coated. Aluminum nitride alone can achieve high thermal conductivity, but the viscosity of the system increases greatly, which seriously limits the application of the product. 2.Boron nitrideBN Advantages: The thermal conductivity is very high and the property is stable. Disadvantages: high price, market price from hundreds to thousands of yuan (according to the product quality difference is large). Although the use of boron nitride can achieve higher thermal conductivity, but it is similar to aluminum nitride, the system viscosity increases greatly after a large number of filling, which severely limits the application of products. 3.Silicon CarbideSiC Advantages: High thermal conductivity. Disadvantages: Carbon and graphite produced in the synthesis process are difficult to remove, resulting in low purity and high conductivity of the product, which is not suitable for electronic adhesives. Because of its high density, it is easy to precipitate and stratify in organic silica gels, which affects the application of products. Epoxy resin is more suitable. 4.Magnesium oxideMgO Advantages: Low price. Disadvantages: It is easy to absorb moisture in the air, has strong viscosity, and can not be filled in large quantities; it has poor acid resistance and is easily corroded by acid in general, which limits its application in acidic environment. 5.Alumina(acicular) Advantages: Low price. Disadvantage: Low addition, in liquid silica gel, the maximum addition of ordinary needle alumina is generally about 300 phr, resulting in limited thermal conductivity of the product. 6. Alumina (spherical) Advantages: Large filling capacity, in liquid silica gel, spherical alumina can be added to 600 ~ 800 parts, resulting in high thermal conductivity products. Disadvantage: The price is more expensive, but lower than boron nitride and aluminum nitride. 7.Zinc oxide Advantages: Good particle size and uniformity, suitable for the production of thermal conductive silicone grease. Disadvantages: low thermal conductivity, not suitable for the production of high thermal conductivity products; light weight, strong viscosity, not suitable for filling. 8. Quartz Powder (Crystalline) Advantages: high density, suitable for filling; low price, suitable for a large number of filling, low cost. Disadvantage: Low thermal conductivity, not suitable for the production of high thermal conductivity products. High density may result in stratification. To sum up, different fillers have their own characteristics. When choosing fillers, we should make full use of the advantages of each filler, use several fillers to mix and play a synergistic role, which can not only achieve high thermal conductivity, but also effectively reduce the cost, while ensuring the miscibility of fillers and organic silicon matrix.
