Bait and switch (both price and engine)

Get your quote on paper!!!!! \t\n\t\nDon is VERY smooth and nice on the phone and in person. He seems like wonderful person. \t\n\t\nI was quoted (verbal) one price and charged a much higher price when the job was finished. I was told several times the engine was new when I was quoted the price. When the job was done I find out.......they call a re-manufactured (used) engine, new. A re-manufactured engine is not new, it is a used engine with new parts. \t\n\t\nBy the time everything was all said and done, it was just a little less than if I had the dealership put in a new factory engine.\t\n\t\n I would not recommend them to anyone\t\n

Bait & Switch & Just Plain RUDE ! ! !

I recently bought a boat that needed some engine work. I found an ad for Don's Auto Body on craigslist so I called. They quoted me $1,500 for a rebuilt engine & $800 to install it over the phone. I felt this was fair. They also offered to pick the boat up for me since I didnt have a way to trailer it that day. Great, right? I went in the next day and they explained to me that the boat needed X & Y & Z done and that they had to do this & that to it. However, I was smart enough to get some 2nd opinions, and ALL of these other professionals said that these things were NOT needed. So I asked Don's to give me an estimate to repair the boat in writing. I did this for 2 reasons. 1) I had read the previous review on Citysearch about them. 2) I kept getting told that they were telling me that I needed things that I didnt. When I asked the manager for a written estimate he said "That"s ridicoulous" and I quote "our time is too valuable we make $75 an hour". They proceeded to advise me to have a good day (which meant goodbye - leave us alone). I had noticed my paperwork already had a charge of $150 on it to pick the boat up. I never asked them to pick it up, they offered, and when I accepted they never mentioned a cost. They basically wanted me to let them just work on it and give me the bill (blank check). I returned at 5:00pm 2 days later to get my boat out of there and was told I could not have it because they were closing at 5:30 and to come back another day. Luckly, I called them from my work phone so all of our conversations are recorded. I will be filling a complaint. If you are considering these guys to do work. I can honestly say that in my 35 yrs I have never been treated so rudely as a paying customer in my life. I am giving you fair warning now. DO NOT go there. See the other review.

Horrible experience - Dishonest auto body shop

Buyer beware. \t\n\t\nDon's Auto Body, Inc. - on Union Road in Buffalo / Cheektowaga, NY - provided me with unsatisfactory service. \t\n\t\nIn restoring a classic car, Don's Auto Body billed me above and beyond the agreed upon estimate, without ever contacting me for permission to do so during the almost 5 months in which the shop had my vehicle. \t\n\t\nIn addition, they performed the following services wrong or incorrectly: \t\n-painted engine wrong color\t\n-drips in clear coat\t\n-blistered paint\t\n-dirt in paint\t\n-damaged power window runners / tracks\t\n-misaligned tail-fins / bumper-filler\t\n-additional items...\t\n\t\nIn addition, while my vehicle was at Don's Auto Body, it was removed from the premises without my permission twice. Once, an unknown person (with Don's Auto Body's permission) took the vehicle to supposedly have some work done to the back window at another shop... I never gave anyone permission to drive the car. Secondly, the car disappeared for an extended period of time (days), and I had no idea where it was. To this day, no one can prove to me where the car was or how it got back. \t\n\t\nDon's Auto Body tried to bill me approximately 23,000 dollars (US funds) when I had only agreed to a WRITTEN estimate of 10 to 15 thousand dollars. I later was able to talk him down to around 17,000 plus tax, but not after a lot of aggravation. \t\n\t\nDon's Auto Body now refuses to correct their work on the vehicle. They will not fix the blisters or cracks in the paint. I am currently working with the Better_ Business_ Bureau of Upstate New York in an attempt to get Don's Auto Body to fix their work. \t\n\t\nIf the Better_ Business_ Bureau cannot help me resolve this, I will have to take Don's Auto Body, and it's owner Don Staubitz, to court for the damages. \t\n\t\nI would not do business with Don's Auto Body again. Nor would I reccomend anyone to do so. I do not feel their owner nor management is honest in any way.
