Larry's has handled the building of the 408 Stroker for my Corvette and it has been an adventure. I get asked frequently what someone can do to keep their car safely on the road.Here are the key four things I always suggest. Doesn't matter where you do it but it will save you a lot of problems. Here goes: 1. Do regular recommended maintenance. Your car's maker publishes a list of things to check and when. Your service shop will have more suggestions that can prevent problems and breakdowns. 2. Focus on regular checkups. For example, your regular oil change is a great time for a service facility to check important safety and reliability items. Truth is, most oil change shops just change oil and some other fluids. Don't miss the chance to have your vehicle checked over for growing problems. 3. Tend to early symptoms before major problems arise. Mention your concerns during regular service or make a quick consult by phone or visit. Not everything needs immediate attention. You can delay some items if you are willing to put up with temporary inconvenience. Have your shop help you set priorities between urgent and important repairs you need. 4. Find a good shop to partner with. Dealerships can be good but expensive and inconvenient. Major service chains are better but their regular turnover in advisors makes it hard to build relationships. Many find that a local shop with good technical resources (including the service records for your car), comfortable surroundings, and a staff who cares gives them the best outcomes.
