The sales people in the electronics store seem helpful buy do they really know what they're talking about? Can you trust the 18 year old kid at Best Buy? Really, I mean, Geek Squad is filled with Geeks right? The Solution: Buying a computer is like buying a car. You want the best car you can afford that meets your demands and appeals to your sense of satisfaction. When it comes to cars, one size does not fit all. Not surprisingly the same is true of computers. Consumers are different in taste, frugality, and needs. Use the somewhat oversimplified Guidelines below to assist you with your purchasing decision. Laptops, NetBooks,and Tablets: Is portability important to you?Do you need to do your computer work on the road or in Starbucks often?Do you often travel and need to conduct business at the same time?Do you need to give presentations on a regular basis?If you answered yes to any of the following questions, then a laptop is essential to the way that you work. Laptops cover a lot of ground, but there are a few basic rules. First off, every portable computer is essentially a Laptop, whether it's a NetBook, Tablet, Notebook, etc. they are all just variants of portable computers known as laptops. Different Manufacturers choose their own labels and names for marketing reasons 1. Lighter is crucial for portability2. Performance power is critical if this is your only computer and you are a power user.a. Maximum Memoryb. Best Processor you can affordc. Adequate Disk Spaced. Correct Operating System3. Screen Size is important if you are not using a docking station and you like to see what you're doing.4. Tablet PC's are an integral part of presenting information to customers. WiFi is built into every notebook made so don't worry about it. Choosing a NetBook is a great idea if you want something really light and small. It's also easy on the wallet. The downside is that they are not very robust and should be used for Internet/Email/light Office applications and basic CD/DVD usage.
