Process for Winterizing a Motorcycle

During the winter months you must take special caution to winterize your motorcycle. This will ensure that it will be ready to roll in the spring. It is important to properly take care of your bike before the hard, cold winter months. Here are a few steps to help you get your bike prepared.

Change all the fluids in your motorcycle. Make sure you change the transmission fluid as well as the oil. This will help prevent damage to your metal parts of the bike during the winter. Your motorcycle will stay properly lubed.

It is also important to put a full tank of gas in your motorcycle. This will keep the fuel tank area from breaking down and having damage.

Clean your battery post, and put lubricant on the bolts to help keep the clean during the winter. Put a battery tender on you battery. This will turn on and off so it will not cause any type of damage to your motorcycle. It will keep the battery charged during the cold winter months.

Check your tires and make sure they are properly inflated. This will help keep them from forming flat spots during the winter. Also, it is important to rotate your bike during the cold months to keep the tires from becoming flat on one side of the tire.

Purchase a nice cover to put over your motorcycle so it will not be exposed to cold temperatures. Also, give your motorcycle a nice cleaning before putting it up, this will free it from all dirt particles that could become a permanent part of the motorcycle if not removed.
