How to Wash Pepper Spray Out of Eyes
If you are unlucky enough to get pepper spray into your eyes, do not rub your eyes. This only makes the pepper spray irritate your eyes even more and can make it difficult to rinse the spray away. Get yourself to fresh water as quickly as possible and try to remove the spray.
Items Needed:
- Water
- Cup, optional
- Mild soap
- Saline eye wash
Instructions:
- Rinse your eyes with running water. If possible, use a cup to slowly pour the water into your eyes. If you do not have a cup, try to put your eyes under running water or splash the water into your eyes. If you have pepper spray on your hands, do not use your hands near your eyes.
- Wash your face and hands carefully with a mild soap, especially if you have gotten pepper spray on your hands. Rinse your face and hands thoroughly to avoid recontaminating yourself.
- Continue to flush your eyes with fresh water.
- Open your eyes only as you are able. Do not force your eyes to open until you can do so without pain.
- Flush your eyes with a saline eye wash when you are able to open your eyes a little more. The saline helps to soothe your eyes and flush out any remaining pepper spray.
- Seek medical attention if your eyes continue to burn or hurt or if you cannot rinse the pepper spray from your eyes. Do not use eye drops or prescription eye medications in your eyes, unless directed by a doctor, as these can make the situation worse.
