How to Start a Tree Removal Business

Homeowners have a great need for tree removal services. It is a service that homeowners cannot perform on their own due to the need for specialized equipment. If you desire to start your own tree removal business, you will have plenty of potential customers to provide service to.

  1. Obtain capital to start up your tree removal business. This can be done two different ways. You can take on investors or you can get a small business loan from the bank. By taking on a loan, you will be able to run your business with more autonomy, but you will have to start repaying the loan immediately with interest. If you have investors, you most likely will have no interest to repay, but investors can be much more demanding of you. Choose the method that works best for you.

  2. Purchase the necessary tools to start your company. At the very least, you will need a chainsaw, ladder, ropes, harness and a stump grinder. You will also need a truck to haul away the tree to the dump. Search for used equipment before buying new so that you can save money.

  3. Visit with a lawyer to find out what type of requirements you will need to fulfill before starting your company. Because each county and state demand different things of you, it is wise to seek an attorney's counsel before continuing. With the lawyer's assistance, fulfill all local and state requirements.

  4. Hire at least one person to help you. Although you will be able to remove trees 15 feet and under by yourself, most trees that you will remove will be at least 25 feet. This means you will need to take on another employee. Find someone that has tree removal or landscaping experience.

  5. Advertise your business. You can advertise in the local newspaper. Also, advertise online using free social media services to help you. Cold calling is also effective; when you see an unsigtly tree in a yard, knock on the door and offer your services to the homeowner. When working on a client's tree be sure to check the other trees in the neighborhood for potential customers.
