How to Run PC Software on Your Mac
Running PC software on a Mac computer takes a bit of work. In order to run PC programs on a Mac, it will need a different way of reading the software. There a few ways to accomplish this task, just follow a few simple steps and you will be well on your way.
- Create a Windows partition on the Mac. This program is located under Utilities and will assist you with creating a separate section on your Mac's hard drive, in which you can install Windows. You can make this partition with the Boot Camp Assistant program that comes with a Mac OS X. Once the Windows section is booted, the Mac will act as a PC and you will be able to install any software on to it.
- Install a program that will help you create a virtual PC on your Mac. VMWare Fusion and Parallels are both programs you can use to do this. The program will run at the same time as your Mac, and you will need to install a version of Windows for it to work. Once the virtual PC is running, you can then install PC software onto the Mac.
- Create a compatibility layer for your PC software with CrossOver. This program will create a "bottle" for PC applications. It will act as a virtual Windows and will contain its own unique C drive. There will be no need to install a version of Windows when using the CrossOver program. The only downfall is that CrossOver is not compatible with all PC software applications. Check its online database to see if it supports the program you want to us.
