  1. Check the paint. Ask if the paint is new or when the car was painted. Be aware of cheap paint jobs because there may be larger problems underneath the paint job.


  2. Check for rust, dents, and fillers in the bumpers and wheel wells. Check the entire exterior for rust. Check underneath the vehicle for any signs of rust.


  3. Check the entire car from signs of major body repair. Look for inconsistencies such as in the door panels and fenders.


  4. Check the inside of the car for tears in the upholstery as well as sun damage.


  5. Check the overall cleanliness of the engine. Look for rust and oil leaks under the hood.
