How to Get a Parking Pass

Space is becoming more limited in growing cities. New houses are built, roads are congested and additional people are trying to fit in an area that remains the same size. One problem that often arises in these situations is parking. To ensure you have a parking space, you may need to get a parking pass that gives you special privilege of parking in a designated lot.

  1. Apply early for your pass. Many businesses and schools have a limited number of passes because there are a limited number of parking spaces. If you wait too long, all of the spaces may be accounted for.

  2. Determine what type of parking pass you need. Some parking lots have different zones with different fees. You may pay less for a parking pass for a space near the back of the lot, but you might have to walk farther.

  3. Inquire about rates, pass durations and what is required for you to receive a pass. If you know you are going to need parking for an entire year rather than a month or two, you may want to purchase a parking pass that is valid for a longer period of time, as they are usually cheaper than purchasing several passes.

  4. Fill out any necessary paperwork. If you are a new employee or new student to a university, you may need to show proof of employment or student status.

  5. Pay any necessary parking pass fees, and obtain a receipt. In case you misplace it, you have a receipt to show you have purchased a pass and able to get a new one.

  6. Display your parking pass in or on your vehicle. Many hang on the rear view mirror, while others are applied to the back window or to the bumper.
