Rural Housing Development
Specific guidelines must be met before a family or individual will be approved for a Rural Housing Development Grant. Farmers of agricultural products or home builders in rural areas or a combination of both will qualify for this type of grant. This grant is offered through the office of the United States Department of Agriculture and available to those who meet the criteria of new rural home building or new agricultural product farming.
Housing and Urban Development Grants
The Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, offers what is known as economic development initiative grants. As part of the urban recovery, HUD grants financial assistance to individuals and families who are building new homes in areas deemed part of an urban environment. Each state has different guidelines so it would be best to contact the HUD office to discuss funding requirements and eligibility.
Money
Government grants are available for going green when building a new home. This would pertain to those builders who use efficient energy sources as well as sustainable energy. One of the ways the government helps new homeowners with their finances on a green home is with tax credits. Depending on the tax credit and which item in the household it is applied to, a homeowner could save up to 50 percent of their purchase price on many items they purchased specifically for installing into the new energy efficient home. Check with the Environmental Protection Agency for more information and which tax credits are good for which calendar year.
