Famous Delicacies of the World
All countries have their favorite foods they enjoy. Certain foods that appeal to a person in one place may not be appealing to someone in another part of the world. Some of these delicacies could be deadly if cooked incorrectly.
- Tuna eyeball is eaten in China and Japan. Its boiled and seasoned to taste then served with fish fat and muscles.
- Chicken cartilage is served in Japan as a snack. It can be fried or on a shish kabob and its very chewy to eat.
- Herring sperm in Russia and the UK is fried and served on toast or with horseradish.
- Barbacoa is one of Mexico’s favorite dishes. It is a sheep slow cooked in a pit and then served on warm corn tortillas with salsa, onion and guacamole.
- Smalahove is a Christmas fish eaten in Norway. This is a sheep’s head with brain and fleece removed form the head and boiled for a few hours then served with potatoes.
- Prairie oyster or rocky mountain oyster are eaten in North America. These are bull testicles coated in flour and deep-fried to serve as an appetizer.
- Goat head is eaten in Southern Africa. This dish is boiled with onion, garlic, tomatoes, chilies and ginger and served complete with brains, tongue and ears.
- Balut is called eggs with legs in the Philippines. It’s a fertilize egg buried underground for two weeks until the embryo is almost developed then dug up boiled and eaten shell and all.
- Salo is the fat of a pig eaten raw, smoked, fried or boiled. This is served as a snack in the Ukraine.
