About Cuban Holidays
Cuba has very festive holidays, with an abundance of special days that are celebrated with happiness. Some of the most known is on January 1st, which is the Triumph of Revolution, and October 10th, Cuba's independence day. Due to Cuba's rich history, the holidays are full of traditions.
Triumph of the Revolution
For most, January 1st is the celebration of the New Year, but in Cuba it’s the day of victory founded by Fidel Castro in 1959. It is celebrated in the same manner as New Year’s and plenty of Cubans will go out and have a good time with family and friends.
Day of the National Rebelliousness
The day of National Rebelliousness takes place on July 26th and has been celebrated since 1954. The day is to remember the events of when men under the orders of Fidel Castro, attacked the army of Moncada. Although the plan had failed, it hinted the beginning of Castro’s reign and the how he finally dug out Fulgencio Batista.
Independence Day
This holiday has been around since 1868 when Carlos Manuel de Cespedes gave absolute freedom to his working slaves. This is also the date where he started a colony war, which turned into the Ten Years War. The day is a big celebrated with fireworks cast over by Cuba’s beaches. During the daytime, many parades take place with dancers and acrobatics.
Another important holiday in Cuba is Christmas, which follows the same traditions as European countries and is called "Navidad."
