Just for Today!

Here we are already into the second month of 2011. How are those New Year's resolutions looking now?I decided this morning on the way to work I would just resolve to do these things TODAY!I am going to patient. Listen to the needs of others. Allow them to have their say about things.I am going to be tolerant. I know that everyone does not think like me.I am going to be elastic! I have to practice giving...bending! Problems are just speed bumps. Sometimes it is good to slow down!I am going to breathe. This will allow me to stay calm, focused, and give myself a minute to put together my thoughts so I can form them into words with meaning instead of saying "mean" words!I hope you take a moment to think about what you want to be TODAY! ...read more

Just Breathe!

Happy Holidays to everyone! Please take the time to turn minutes into moments and moments into memories! Take a moment to listen for sleigh bells ringing. Enjoy the aroma of chestnuts roasting on a open fire. See EXcitement and joy in the glistening eyes of a child. Take a walk down memory lane and remember Christmas' past. Hold your loved ones close for an EXtra second! It will be a beautiful site a memory you will forever delight. A second that after you have spent the last 3 weeks puzzling your puzzler, your heart will grow 3 sizes and you will forget about all the hassle from the hustle and bustle. You will find out that the true meaning of the season can not be bought in a store but comes from within which only means more! We all are guilty of putting in more at the office and justifying it by the fact it allows us to give more to the ones we love. However, this time of year we need to take note that what they want most of all is our TIME! The only source of capital that makes us all truly equal. It is not in how much of it we keep because it has an expiration but in how we invest it. All of us know the value of investments because after all we talk to our clients about it everyday. In the coming year, make this part of your resolutions. Don't play reindeer games. Schedule time for yourself and your family. I have an appointment every night at 8:30pm that I will not miss...I read my 3 year old a bedtime story. After I tuck her in the bed, I think about the nights I didn't read to my now 19 year old. I wish I would have been smart enough then to know how important that time really was for us both. I am thankful I got another chance to get it right. So my wish for you during this season is that you just breathe! Enjoy every moment and make it a memory. Have yourself a Merry little Christmas! ...read more

293 Ways to make change for a dollar$

There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. Are you willing to consider these 10 "changes" in your daily work habits so you can make more dollars in 2011.  If you ask me, it only makes sense (cents).Surfing the web.Leave that for the hours that you set aside daily that are not your moneymakers! Instead try picking up the phone and call someone in your sphere and ask them for blogging ideas.Procrastination. Make a plan that works for you and then work the plan everyday! Don't put it off until tomorrow, or I will call my client after lunch. Do it now! The 80/20 rule applies to this bad habit. We spend 80% of our day doing things that only make 20% impact on our financial bottom line.  When you look at your daily to do list, you should tackle the most difficult one first! The one thing that you dread to even start because we all know it is the one thing that we need to do the most. Let's face it….who really likes to cold call.Negative attitude.Attitude is everything. Think about the things that annoy you on a daily basis and avoid them. It sounds simple but you have to think about it. Scenario: you are at lunch and the waitress completely messes up your order. The rest of your day's activities will be greatly affected by how you deal with it. If you let it go and move on then you can remain productive if not then you will not be able to stay focused on what you need to do. The phone call that you have to make will not go over near as well if you have an attitude problem.See Part IIEliminate email reaction mode. You do not have to answer every email the second you get it. Make checking your email a task on your calendar just like you would a meeting with a client. Devote a certain amount of time of your daily schedule to check and return emails. Stick to it!Lack of priorities.Run your day, don't let your day run you. Otherwise, you will be looking at the right here, right now scenario for the rest of what will be a short career.  Don't drop what you are doing to go show the house right now! There are many reasons for eliminating that from your things that I have to do now list. Ultimately, you will be chasing a commission check.  Learn to think long term. Start by putting your existing customers and clients first. After all, you have a proven record with them. Don't take this to mean I think you should stop looking for new business it just means don't chase down a maybe when you already have one right there in front of you. Don't be reactive. Be proactive.Money management. Revenue generation over profit. You should not focus on how much the ad cost you need to know how much you will profit from it. You may get 100 calls but you have to be able to close them. Otherwise, now you have wasted more than money; you have wasted your most valuable commodity…your time!Complacency. Stop being lazy. Want more. A lot of this problem has to do with being close minded, not being willing to try new things to improve your skills and talents.Vocabulary. You don't need fancy jargon to impress a client. Talk to them on their level. They don't know much less understand big industry words and it really doesn't earn you any credibility with them. One phrase that comes to mind that you should NEVER say to a client, "to tell you the truth." Honestly, think about it. If you say that to them doesn't that imply you would lie to them otherwise. Two cents. You do not always need to put in your "two cents" worth in every conversation. This often makes us fail at one of the most important things we can do in any relationship, listen. Actions speak louder than words, remember this always.Eliminate junk. Stop being a cell phone junky. You do not have to update your facebook status while in a meeting. It can wait. After all, it is a major sign of disrespect. Whomever you are with deserves your full attention, even if it is just you. You also don't have to talk on the phone every time you get in the car. Use that time to listen to music, talk to your kids. This will make you a happier person thus a more productive person. The scope of change. Resolutions are usually a means to a goal, but if you find a resolution too difficult to stick to, it's usually dropped and forgotten. With goals, if you find a planned change too difficult to carry out, you can drop that plan, but pick a different new behavior to try that will still lead to the same end result, and not lose sight of the goal. ...read more

Tis the Season to List your House

1People who look for a home during the holidays are more serious buyers.   2Serious buyers have fewer houses to choose from during the Holidays and less competition mean more money for you.   3Since the supply of listings will dramatically increase in January, there will be less demand for your particular home. Less demand means less money for you.   4Houses show better when decorated for the Holidays.   5Buyers are more emotional during the Holidays so they are more likely to pay your price.   6Buyers have more time to look for a home during the Holidays than during regular weekdays.   7Some people must buy before the end of the year for tax purposes.   8January is traditionally the month for employees to begin new jobs. Since transferees cannot wait until spring to buy, you must be on the market during the Holidays to capture that market.   9You can still be on the market, but you have the option to restrict showings during the six or seven days during the Holidays.   10 You can sell now for more money and we will provide for a delayed closing or extended occupancy until early next year.   11 By selling now, you may have an opportunity to be a non-contingent buyer during the spring when many more houses are on the market for less money! This will allow you to sell high and buy low. ...read more
