South Maui Bicycles Mauis Friendliest Shop

My wife and I rented two road bikes from this shop to ride up Haleakala while on vacation in May. We were planning to start our ride early on Monday -- before the shop opened -- but the shop is closed on Sundays, so we were prepared to pick up the bikes on Saturday and pay for two days of rental, but they gave us both bikes for the one-day price when we got them on Saturday. When our ride took longer than expected we called the shop and they said not to worry about getting them in just before closing on Monday, go ahead and return them first-thing on Tuesday. We really appreciated the flexibility! Additionally, we got a great rate on renting a bike rack to go with the bikes. The bikes were high quality and well-maintained, and we were given good personal service and fit-checks before we left with the bikes. Overall we got great service and had an outstanding experience with this shop. It's fair to say our experience seems the complete opposite of what Jeff experienced.

I had to write when I saw this other reveiw, This shop is probably the best shop I have ever done business with. I have been a cust. for more than 10 yrs. and I have had nothing but good experiances there. They have done excellent repairs on my bike and when friends visit they have provided rentals that are of the highest quality and running order. The staff is always attentitive and although this is a very busy store thet try to take care of all who enter. I have seen them do repairs on customer bikes and rental bikes for free that if it were me I would have charged. People need to be responsible for their action and as you know stuff happens on a bike ride. The owner Frank and his staff puts on the only century rides on the island and they do a great job. They recently were featured in Bicycling Mag. as a shop that they loved, that doesn't sound like a scam to me. This is a community oriented shop that does all the right things, I recomend them whole heartedly.

I rented a road bike to ride up Haleakala. On return they tried to
scam me for extreme wear on rear rim while descending. I
didn't ride down! The rim was dangerously worn and they are
leaving it that way so they can charge YOU if you ride down the
mountain. DON'T USE THIS SHOP UNTIL THEY STOP RUNNING
THIS UNETHICAL SCAM. Additionally, they were uniterested in helping me with a simple adjustment before leaving, saying I could do it myself if I wanted.
