Icy Roads Led to Fatal Minnesota Car Crash

Icy roads preceded a fatal broadside collision involving a car and a semi tractor trailer south of Mahnomen,Minnesota early Saturday morning. The accident took place around 2:40 a.m. Saturday on Highway 59, about two miles south of Mahnomen. Gina Thompson, 23, of Mahnomen, died in the crash. 438 Vehicles Crash on Minnesota Icy Roads

Freezing rain iced over Minnesota roads, sending hundreds of vehicles slamming into one another and careening into ditches, authorities said Sunday. The accidents began accumulating Saturday and continued into Sunday, with the total reaching at least 438, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
