Bays of Thunder

I brought my car to Bays of Thunder on July 3rd. I specifically asked them to call me to discuss any unexpected work or costs. They charged me $400 more than their quote for work on my clutch without discussing with me. I asked them to look at a brake caliper that was sticking, and they ended up changing out the caliper and my rear brakes (which were only 3 months old) without speaking to me first, at a cost of $455 (including three hours of labor!). An oil change was a $34, which isn't criminal, but a crappy deal none the less. With other miscellaneous work thrown in, total charges were about $1,000 above what was quoted, and mostly unexpected and never discussed ahead of time. The car was not done until July 29th, twenty six days after I dropped it off.This shop is where nightmares about mechanics are born. The work took forever, they ran up our bill without discussing it with us, their communication was horrible until the bill was due. I would recommend avoiding this shop.

I was sitting on the interstate with a flat tire on a sunday afternoon. The 1-800 service number couldn't find anyone who would come and change it. I drove up to the next exit found a guy who called Kelley. Within a short time he met me at his shop and changed the tire. He is the nicest guy ever to give up his personal time to do a huge favor for a stranger.

We were travelling from St. Paul, MN to Maryland on a VW Trike I'd just bought, when I had a problem with the charging system near Dakota, MN. A guy picked me up and took me to Bays of Thunder where I met Kelley and his wife and daughter. He said he'd help me out and take a look at the Trike. His workmanship was excellent! His wife found us lodging nearby and we got a room. The next day, she came and picked us up. The bill was very reasonable and we made it the rest of the way to Maryland without any problem. Kelley is not only a good mechanic but a great guy to get to know. If I'm ever up Dakota way again, you better believe that I'm going to stop in and say hello to a new found friend and his family.
I dont know what the other guy's problem was that left a negative review, but I had no such experience with Kelley. I'd go to him again, and again and again.
